Snow Day!

Today we got our first dump of snow of the winter. It was Micah's first experience with snow and we had fun playing outside.

Seven Months

This past month

1) Teething – Micah has his first two teeth coming up – we can see one and the other one is just below the gum surface. This past week has been difficult, as we think he is in a lot of pain with teething. He is whiney and just wants to be held. I never thought I would be a drug pusher – but Children's Tylenol has become our best friend on a few occasions.

2) Nodding – Yes our little baby nods. I was at first worried about why Micah was all a sudden becoming a bobble head – I confessed my concern to Ryan thinking of the worst and he pointed out that Micah was copying us with nodding – He was right! It is so cute.

3) Hungry, Hungry Hippo – We have now had a month of solid foods and I am happy to report that Micah loves eating. He eats way more then is suggested for his age and it is showing (He is starting to look like fat Buddha again). His favs are carrots and apples; but so far he is not too picky. I am having fun making his food and he is being spoiled with fresh, organic food whenever possible. This is what he is eating: chicken, lentils, egg yolks, apples, pears, blueberries, bananas, mango, carrots, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, green beans, broccoli, peas, avocado, butternut squash, brown rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, and barely cereal.

4) Favorite Game – Micah loves playing peek-a-boo and it always produces giggles.

5) Kisses – Beware of slobbery, open month with tongue cheek kisses :-)

6) Waving – He has just started copying when we wave – the behaviour is still inconsistent, but has happened a few times.

7) Favorite Songs – Old MacDonald, The Wheels on the Bus, and Eency, Weency Spider

8) Weight: 15 lbs 4 oz; Height: 25 ¾ inches

Micah's first swim!

Today I took Micah for his first swim in the pool. We went with his girlfriend, Anna Christy and her mom, Nadine. We had so much fun. He even had a accidental dunk (oops); however, he didn't seemed to mind. I am so glad that our first experience in the pool was a positive one and I look forward to our 'swimming lessons' in January.

Weekend in Drumheller

Last weekend we went to Drumheller to visit Ryan's parents. It was nice that Jason and Jocelyn were there with their kids. Micah had so much fun just watching his cousins.

Trip to BC

Last week my mom took Micah and I to BC to visit my sister. It was a spur of the moment trip, she had found a seat sale and my sister was on reading break, so it was perfect for a little get away. It had been 7 years since I had been back to the lower mainland (not counting the numerous layovers in Vancouver) and I found myself becoming a little nostalgic (I can't believe that I am old enough to be nostalgic!!!!). I visited TWU campus and took a walk down memory lane. I had such a great undergrad experience and it was fun to explore the campus with my sister. She showed me all the new additions to the campus and the buildings where we both had classes. We also went to Fort Langley and stopped at one of my old favorite studying spots – Wendals!!!

While I was at TWU I became good friends with my great aunt (my grandma's sister) - Aunt Eva. She would have me over for dinner and we would go to plays and other events together. She was such an inspiration to me at that time of how I wanted to be when I grew old. She had such a zest for life and was always willing to try new things or see new things. She is now 92 and she admittedly has slowed down quite a bit since I first met her, but she is still one of the most positive people that I know. I was so glad that I was able to see her and introduce her to Micah.

Another highlight of the trip was going into Vancouver and meeting up with my good friend Daina at Granville Island. Although our visit was too short, it was great to see her again and made me look forward to our Olympic weekend together in February.

It was my first time flying commercial with Micah and I am happy to report that he did really well (it was a little trial run for our upcoming longer trips). I was amazed at how nice people are to you when you are flying with a baby; I had numerous people ask if I needed help carrying stuff (and I didn't even have that much to carry). All and all it was a great trip - Thanks Mom.

Six Months

It is hard to believe that Micah is already six months and that my mat leave is half over. We have been having fun being involved in a mom's group at the community health clinic and baby programs at the library. We have made new friends and reconnected with old friends. Micah has been growing by leaps and bounds and each day there seems to be a new development. Here is the latest info:

1) Weight: 14 lbs Length: 25 1/2 inches
2) Had his first meal, organic whole grain brown rice baby cereal (yummy☺) – so far he likes food.
3) He can sit unassisted.
4) He moves around in a circle on his belly.
5) Had his first cold.
6) Favorite toy is the ExerSaucer. I have it set up in the kitchen so that Micah can play in it while I make supper.
7) He is fascinated by faces and likes to grab our noses, lips and cheeks.
8) Loves having a bath in the big bathtub and playing with the water and his bath toys.

Micah at Five Months

1) Weight: 14 lbs 6 oz; Length: 25''

2) The nights of Micah sleeping through seems to be long gone and now he gets up one to three times a night.

3) Micah has a consistent bedtime routine and goes to bed around 6pm, with almost no fussing. Morning comes around 6 am. Nap times are still a struggle. He usually only sleeps for 45 minutes and has about 2 to 3 naps a day.

4) He is our little wiggle worm. He easily rolls over from back to stomach and twists himself around and uses all sorts of body movements to move to different positions.

5) He is starting to be shy (especially in big loud crowds he prefers mom). He likes to bury his face in mom or dad's shoulder and peek out to see the stranger that wants his attention.

6) He loves watching other babies or toddlers.

7) He is likes light switches and tries to help mommy and daddy turn on or off the light.

8) He has a quivering pouty lower lip when he gets upset.

9) He smiles easily and has the sweetest giggle and laugh.

10) He is starting to play 'catch' with daddy.

11) Micah is starting to take a sippy cup and is showing interested in food.

A Tribute to My Grandpa

My grandpa passed away two weeks and the funeral was last weekend. I am happy that he is no longer suffering, but I am sad that he could not forever remain the grandpa I knew growing up. Sadly, death is inevitable and separation needs to occur.

I have fond memories of grandpa taking me fishing when I was a child, teasing me about boyfriends when I was a teenager and attending my graduations and wedding when I was an adult. He always showed interest in what I was doing. I will miss his quick wit and sense of humor. Although over the years I would come and go, one thing always remained the same, 3 o'clock coffee time at grandma and grandpa's. He would often drink his coffee from the saucer and loved chocolate treats. Coffee time at my grandparent's house will just not be the same without him. I am so glad that I was able to see him one last time and introduce him to Micah before he died. I will always treasure those memories. Love you and miss you, Grandpa.

Micah at four months

It is amazing that how much Micah has already grown and changed in four months and how much he has captured our hearts. He is such a precious gift to us. Here is his four month info:

1) Since coming home from holidays Micah has not slept through the night, instead gets up 2-3 times a night, I am hoping that this is a short lived stage.
2) Loves to be outside and hanging out with mom or dad in the baby bjorn.
3) Is a little chatterbox, is often cooing/squealing at mom or dad or at his toys.
4) Weighs: 14 lbs and 3 oz Length: 24 3/4''
5) When he gets excited he kicks his little legs like crazy.
6) He has discovered his mouth, thus he will suck in his lips or suck on his fingers while cooing.
7) He likes standing on people's laps and enjoys the jolly jumper (although is still working on the jumping part)

On the road again

This past week we had a little escape from Edmonton. We started our journey with a weekend camping trip to Gull Lake with some good friends. It was Micah's first tenting experience and he was such a trooper. He loves being outside, even when it was cold and windy. From Gull Lake we headed to Saskatchewan to spend a week on Ryan's family farm. While on the farm we saw a lot of wild life, helped with harvest and even took a trip to Lake Diefenbaker.
