All About Micah

Micah has been growing and changing a lot in the last few months and is less and less a toddler and becoming more and more like a preschooler. He continues to have an active imagination and along with this imagination and pretend play is his request for costumes. Last week I made a pirate costume, this week it was a spaceman helmet. I am not a creative, artsy type, but luckily it does not take much to make him happy. He is also developing a sense of humour and I find it interesting what he finds funny.

He is also going through a puzzle phase. He has an amazing memory and only needs help to do new puzzles once or twice before he can do them on his own.  He continues to love all sport and our living room is often converted into a hockey/ football/ soccer field or basketball court. Every morning he watches hockey highlights with Ryan. He always asked to watch Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes, or San Jose Sharks. Micah still loves books and will often 'read' to his teddies or Jared.

He continues to be a proud older brother of Jared. We have had to recently work at teaching him not to grab toys away from Jared, but more and more he is starting to play with Jared. I will often hear them laughing together or see Micah bring something to Jared to show him or Micah will want Jared part of his play. When Jared is crying Micah will often go up to him and say: “It is okay, Jared”.

Teddy, affectionately named “Baby” is a constant companion for Micah at home. He has been loved so much that his nose has been repaired twice and now needs a nose transplant J

We started potty training last week and have to say I have been pleasantly surprise.  We tried to make it as fun as possible: We got some fun under wear, bought some potty books for boys, and made a chart with stickers. We have had no pee accidents in the last few days. We are still working on getting Micah to poo in the potty but I am hopeful that will come soon enough.

We have had some rough days these past few months with me being tired and less patient as I would like and him learning about his emotions (i.e. tantrums), but I am so blessed to be part of his life and I love him more then words could ever express.

Jared at Seven Months

It has been seven months since this sweet boy entered the world. I am finding that I can not kiss those sweet cubby cheeks enough and I am reminded how blessed I am to have his life part of my life. Here is his latest info...

1) Jared had a nasty cold and was grumpy.

2) He saw a dermatologist and has eczema.

3) He is very chatty.

4) Jared still gets up at least once a night to feed.

5) He loves jumping in his jolly jumper for short periods of time.

6) Feeding Jared solid food has been a struggle and he usually refuses the spoon. He likes to feed himself so we will often dip a mum-mum cracker in baby food or we will sneak a spoon full of something in his month while he is chomping on a cracker. We are trying to remain positive and hope that things approve once he is able to eat more finger foods.

7) He is a little tease. He will readily give strangers a coy smile and then bury his face in our shoulder.

8) He is really cuddly and we will often get hugs.

9) He has a favourite bunny teddy that he cuddles up with at nighttime and naptime. I bought a second one as a back up.

10) He loves Micah. He wants to be part of what Micah is doing and they will often be giggling together.

Jared at Six Months

1) His favorite songs for us to sing to him are: “Itsy bitsy spider” and “Head and shoulders”

2) He has started solid food. He has tried rice cereal and some pureed vegetable (carrots, broccoli and peas). So far he doesn’t really care for food and will sometimes make the most awful face when we try to feed him.

3) He can sit unassisted.

4) He is fascinated with faces and likes to grab our noses.

5) Jared thinks shadows are pretty neat and tries to grab for the shadow puppets.

6) Weight: 18 lbs. Length: 27 inches

Jared at Five Months

This is a little late in getting posted but here is Jared’s five month info.

1)    He had his first plane ride. We went to Phoenix in November to visit grandma and grandpa. He did not enjoy being confined to the seat so we did a lot of walk up and down the isle. He did a lot better on our flight to Edmonton and then to La Crete. So I am hopeful that he will eventually become a good little traveler.
2)    Jared likes to move. He does the funniest thing in his crib, he will left his legs as high up as he can and then drop them as hard as he can making his crib rattle and the mattress ‘crunch’. He is never in the same position in his crib when he wakes up as when we put him down.
3)    His favorite spot is in the arms of mommy or daddy facing out and being walked around. He loves to see everything that is going on. The baby Bjorn has been so helpful; unfortunately he is starting to get to heavy to be it for too long. He can tolerate the exer-saucer and jolly jumper for short periods of time and still enjoys his mat (at least giving our arms and back a little break). Micah is his favorite source of entertainment (his big brother is so funny and does all these cool things).
4)    He has been teething and his favorite teething toy is his fist.
5)    Still no sleeping through the night L. He typically has three short (45 minute) naps during the day.

He is such a smiley baby and we are so in love with him.
