Road Trip

Last week Ryan's boss told him that there was no work lined up for a few days, so we decided to take advantage of the break by going up north to visit my parents and grandparents. I feel so blessed that Micah likes his car seat because there will be many more trips in his future.

We first went to Grande Prairie to visit my parents. Ryan had never seen my parents Grande Prairie operation and got the grand tour from my dad. He got to see the mixing of asphalt and was impressed by the technical aspects and the automation of the asphalt plant.

From Grande Prairie we went to La Crete. It was nice to break up the trip to La Crete because I feel bad having Micah in his car seat all day. In La Crete we spent time with my grandparents. We also went golfing with my family on La Crete's new nine-hole golf course.

A Day in the Life of Micah

Story time

I am seven weeks old today and although I am not on a set schedule (I like to keep mommy and daddy on their toes to make sure they know who is boss) I thought I would share about a day in my life….

When I wake up in the morning, I help mommy open all the curtains and blinds to let the sun shine in to the house. Mommy gives me breakfast and we talk about our night and plans for the day. Afterwards mommy will get me dressed for the day and I will watch mommy quickly eat breakfast and get ready. Then is walk time. I love going for walk. I use to fall asleep right a way, but now that I am bigger I love to stay awake for a little while and listen to the sounds around me… birds chirping, dogs barking, trees rustling and the river flowing. Mommy tries to explain everything to me. I do not always understand, but I like the sound of her voice. Sometimes we stop at the market to pick up fresh fruit and milk. When we get home it is lunchtime. Yummy!

After lunch, we will have play time… we will read stories (Mommy's book club friends give me a whole bag of fun books that mommy likes to read to me), listen and dance to music (so far I like everything except daddy's 80s metal), have belly time (I even sometimes roll over), or have a mommy's sing-a-along. Some times if I am lucky we will get together with mommy's friends or I will come along as mommy runs errands. I also like to listen in on mommy's telephone conversations, especially when she is talking to Grandma K or Auntie Daina. Then is nap time and eating time again. On good days when I wake up daddy will be home. I love spending time with daddy… he is a funny guy and he makes me smile and giggle.

Some days after supper mommy and daddy will give me a bath. I am starting to like bath time. After such a busy day I am tired and after I eat (again), daddy will put me to bed. If I am not too sleepy we will read "Good Night Moon" and daddy will remind me about everyone who loves me as we rock in my rocking chair. Life is good!

Getting to Know Micah

This week Micah reached his one month milestone. He is still very much a mystery to me, but I made a list of things that I have figured out about Micah so far.
1) He hates having his hands/arms confined. When I swaddle him I have to make sure that his hands are free. When he is sleeping he will often have his hands by his face or his arms above his head.
2) His favorite sleeping position is lying on Ryan's chest. He has some of his most relaxed naps on the couch with daddy.
3) He loves cuddling.
4) He likes his car seat/stroller and going for walks.
5) I am most likely to catch a smile, just as he is falling asleep or just after he has farted.

Grandma and Grandpa O meet Micah!

Grandma and Grandpa Olfert came to meet Micah on Saturday. They had been away seeding (and gopher "control") on the old Olfert Farm in Saskatchewan the past few weeks and were very excited to meet the little guy..

The Greatest Weekend Ever!!!

The last weekend of April was very busy and a lot of fun. My parents were in town for Ryan's graduation, and on Friday night my mom and I went to the Wizard of Oz at the Citadel Theatre. It was a wonderful production... the music and costumes were fantastic. Saturday morning we met my parents and Ryan's parents for breakfast. Afterwards my mom came over and helped me prepare the food for dinner... stuffed manicotti and tiramisu. Cooking and baking with my mom is one of my fav things. In the afternoon we attended Ryan's graduation. He graduated with distinction from Taylor University College with a BA in Religon and Theology. It was a momentus occasion, as it was something Ryan had been working towards for 10 years.

Ryan and his friend Ryan Harris.

On Sunday afternoon we went to Ryan and Becky's place for a graduation BBQ. It was great to celebrate Ryan's and other graduates acomplishments with his classmates. When I was planning this weekend I asked Ryan what he would like to do to celebrate his graduation... he told me "dinner in Munich". While as that could not be arranged, I tried for the next best thing dinner at the Bauernschmaus with some of our good friends. The following pictures are courtesy of Niki :-)

To top of the greatest weekend ever, half an hour after we arrived home from dinner my water broke :-)

Micah comes home!

Micah's jaundice is mostly cleared up so they allowed him to come home today. What a relief!
